Over seventy five years ago, E-Central was founded on the principle of “people helping people.” This original core value still holds true today and is especially relevant as we navigate these uncertain times and unique economic challenges. While we are continuing to monitor the impact of this crisis, the ultimate length and depth of the economic/social impact it will have on our organization and to our entire Membership is difficult to predict. However, during this time of uncertainty, please know that E-Central remains financially strong and is ready, willing and able to assist our Members in any way that we can.
Financial Relief for Businesses and Individuals
Unprecedented in size and scope, The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, also known as the CARES Act, was unanimously passed by the Senate on March 25, 2020. This legislation is the largest ever economic stimulus package in U.S. history. The law is intended to address the economic fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States and among other things, offers a wide range of benefits that include direct stimulus payments, expanded unemployment benefits, tax relief and various types of loan accommodations.
For our part, we are very proud to have been an early adopter of the CARES Act. Along with providing loan payment relief to our Members that total over $10 million in outstanding loan balances, we are one of the few credit unions in Los Angeles County to have offered the Paycheck Protection Program PPP loan product. As an SBA Preferred Lender Partner, E-Central has funded nearly $7 million in this critical and important program that keeps Americans employed during this time of crisis. Your Credit Union stepped up to the plate and has helped many of our Members stay in their residences, keep small businesses open and save jobs. Also, and as a result of the “Big Banks” not properly servicing their “little” clients, we developed and added many new relationships to our existing Membership base. Although we are a small fish in a very large pond, we believe that our efforts have made a difference.
The safety and wellbeing of our Members, Staff, and Friends in the community remains a top priority for us. Although we love seeing you in person here at our office in beautiful Pasadena, CA, we encourage you to take more advantage of our online suite of E-Services to access your accounts safely from home. In the coming months, we will be introducing a variety of technological enhancements that include Apple Pay, Google Pay digital wallet services and new control features for your ATM/Debit card via our Mobile Banking product.
